Parts
Where to get parts
Some parts are really difficult to get hold of and some really easy from local Citroën mechanics and online suppliers. Typically there are some parts that break easily and are therefore difficult to source from anywhere unless someone makes reproductions.
Often this depends on local climate etc. In Australia we have lot of heat damage done to sun exposed body parts and internal cosmetic fittings, but a lot less overall rust than seems to plague european climates. The interior of the car gets very hot and dry, so you are always fighting an ongoing battle with moisturising dehydrated panels, switches, buttons and upholstery. Hopefully you have a good local mechanic who can source basic mechanical parts and fittings for you such as rubber hydraulic wheel boots and so on. As I drive my D frequently, regular servicing and replacement of parts as they start to fail is a priority. I have realised after some time now that cars are very organic in nature and will degrade whether you drive them or not. And these cars seem to really like being driven regularly.
Also if you have the unfortunate situation of someone driving into you, repairing or replacing parts like door panels can get quite expensive and time consuming to get them fitting and looking correct. I had someone drive into my drivers side door panel in a carpark a while back and it was more economical to get it repaired than replace it.
Buying a spare parts car becomes an attractive option when you see the prices on some items offered [or not offered] for sale online and elsewhere. Also you often tend to find many people say supplies are available but then can’t deliver when you order.
The Citroën car clubs in your region generally will have good lists of local suppliers or even supply parts themselves through members. [see links page]
